LateRooms.com - Learn About Conservation with Arbor Week in Melbourne
Environmentally-conscious travellers may want to head to Melbourne next month.
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, May 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anyone who is travelling and wants to learn more about conservation along the way should consider booking Melbourne hotels for Arbor Week in June.
The city is preparing to host the event to help raise awareness about conservation and environmental issues within local communities.
Running from June 22nd to 26th, the programme of free events aims to promote tree planting activities around the city, particularly among schools.
It is a well-established event in Australia, with the first Arbor Day being held in the country back in 1889.
Since then, it has developed into a nationwide initiative with the aim of furthering conservation efforts and educating the next generation about their responsibilities towards the natural world.
The week of activities is coordinated by the National Resources Conservation League, which also runs an environment discovery centre in Warburton, just outside Melbourne.
Visitors will be able to observe some of Australia's more unusual wildlife - including the sugar glider - as well as learn about the nation's history and see Aboriginal artefacts and other cultural exhibits.
The centre prides itself on being hands-on, so anyone who heads to the attraction will have the opportunity to get stuck in to conservation.
For more information on this event visit the National Resources Conservation League website or contact the organisers on +61 35966 5822.
